Why are you crowdfunding?
We want to build and reinforce our success in the UK and apply what we’ve learned to the US market. We already get twenty percent of our pledges from US readers so we have a great platform to build on. This crowdfunding campaign will enable us to make our first hires on the ground.
We’ve also built a unique machine learning tool that we use to value networks and pair potential authors with ideas that could be turned into books. So we’re going to invest more to maintain our strategic advantage here too.
As crowdfunding has always worked for us we think it's the natural way to fund the next stage of our journey. So we’ve launched a campaign on Crowdcube, the leading equity crowdfunding platform.
Why do you aim to expand into the US?
In 2017, the value of the US publishing market was $26bn, compared to £5.7bn in the UK. The US crowdfunding market is also eight times bigger so there’s huge potential for us to tap into.
1 in 5 of our pledges already come from US customers, so it’s time we had a team over there. We know that, just like the UK, the US is full of authors and aspiring authors who deserve to be published, and get a fair publishing deal too. We have already set up a distribution deal to supply to Unbound books US book retailers, so now we can offer US authors the same deal as we offer authors in the UK.
What will happen to Unbound in the UK?
We’ll keep doing exactly what we’ve been doing here for the last seven years – enabling authors to turn their ideas and stories into books, disrupting the publishing industry and bringing authors and readers together. Our London office will also remain our home.
Who can invest in Unbound through Crowdcube?
We’ll run our campaign on Crowdcube, the leading equity crowdfunding platform. Crowdcube allows investment from anyone (excluding those living in the US, Canada and Australia) who is over 18 years old and legally entitled to invest.
I'm not based in the UK, can I invest in Unbound?
There are some restrictions on using Crowdcube to invest outside the UK/EU region because different financial regulatory regimes have different views of crowdfunding and advertising of investment opportunities.
However, we may be able to assist you in your investment directly. Please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org and we will see if we can help.
What will I receive as an investor?
You’ll receive shares in Unbound, which you’ll be able to hold onto or sell as you decide. Visit the Unbound Crowdcube page for more information.
Will you be offering Unbound-style rewards?
Yes. All the rewards we're offering can be found on the Crowdcube page.
Are there risks to investing?
Yes. There are a number of risks to investing, as well as potential rewards. Please read Crowdcube’s guide to the risks of investing before considering making an investment.
When am I likely to get a return?
Investments into private companies come with restrictions about what you can do with your shares. It’s an illiquid investment, which means you can’t sell your shares on a stock exchange, or even privately to someone else you know. The good news about this rule is that if an exit opportunity arises, everyone is given the chance to sell their shares at the same time, including the founding team and our VC investors.
Can I share this with my friends?
Follow the link below to get involved. Judging by the huge amount of interest we’ve had ahead of our launch, we’re expecting our campaign to close rapidly, so act fast to make sure you don’t miss out.
If you have more questions about the Crowdcube campaign please contact us via email@example.com and we'll get back to you as soon as we can.
